[Q] How safe is the data or media in the SDS Vault?

[A] The underground nature of the vault provides excellent safety for its contents.

  • Because the vault is underground, it is safe from fire, flood, theft, earthquake and terrorism.
    • A 3" thick seal protects the vault from the elements.
    • The vault footprint is so small that it shouldn't be affected by earthquakes.
    • Underground placement protects the vault from tornadoes and hurricanes.
    • A  4" riser on the vault head allows the vault to be raised in up to 4" of standing water.
  • The ground has natural insulating abilities and the average year round temperature below ground is about 56°F.
  • The seal cap prevents condensation from forming on the inside of the vault.
  • Since the vault is made entirely of metal and is firmly anchored to ground it acts as a natural conductor and should dissipate any lightning strikes.
